Dietitian FAQ

  1. Why do I need to see a dietitian?
If you suffer from the following problems then you should see a dietitian:

Hyperinsulinaemia/Syndrome X (Itchy skin, bloating, dizziness, sugar cravings, hot flushes, difficulty sleeping)
    Overweight (adults & children)
    Eating disorders
    Emotional eating Issues/yo-yo dieters syndrome
    Cholesterol/Triaglycerides
    Blood Pressure
    Allergies
    Constipation
    Irritable Bowel (bloating, wind, diarrhea)
    Sports nutrition
    General healthy eating
    Tiredness
    Coeliac Disease
    Lymphoedema
    Elimination Diets
    ADH children

  2. What will happen at my first and follow up appointment?
At your first appointment the dietitian will assess what nutritional advice you require and then will conduct a dietary and lifestyle assessment, and devise a program to suit your needs and lifestyle. You will also be provided with additional getting started information. You will follow your program over a period of two weeks and will be required to keep full food records of what you eat.

At a follow up appointment in 2 weeks you will be weighed (if required) and your food records and symptom records (if required) will be assessed. You will be provided with goals to achieve each fortnight, and will be educated thoroughly on your dietary needs. Regular follow ups are encouraged until you achieve your required weight or alternative dietary goals.

If you are specifically coming for weight loss you will be provided with food education as well as ways to manage emotional eating, binging, guilt eating and yo-yo dieting syndrome. Habit changes are just as important as dietary changes, particularly if you want to lose the weight permanently. We will make you become a non dieter!

  3. How many appointments do I need?
You can have as many appointments as you wish. One or many!

It is ideal to initially see your dietitian for fortnightly appointments to ensure that you are on the right track, then eventually we encourage you to spread your appointments out to three weekly and then monthly, until you achieve your desired goals.

Remember in the end, you are in control.

Appointments can be tailored to suit your budget as well.

It does not hurt thereafter to see your dietitian even 3 times per year after your goals have been achieved to ensure compliance continues, just as you would go to your doctor for a check up.

  4. What does it cost?
    1. FREE Bulk Billing Service

Medicare rebates do apply - which means you will get up to 5 appointments without cost. But you will need to speak to your G.P. first for a primary care plan and to see if you are eligible.
